The University of Maiduguri was created in 1975 as one of the second-generation Universities, which formed part of the programmes of the Third National Development plan (1975-80) by the then Federal Military Government. At inception, the university did not have physical structures of its own, but in April 1976 it inherited the premises owned by the former North East College of Arts and Science (NECAS).

1.) Vice-Chancellor
Location: Borno
Qualities of the Applicant for the Post
Applicants for the post of the Vice-Chancellor should possess the following:
- Be a distinguished Professor with demonstrated ability to provide exemplary academic leadership and proven management capacity;
- A proven track record of scholarship at national and international levels;
- Must have good understanding of the vision and mission of the University of Maiduguri;
- Innovative, capable of inspiring advancement of learning and commitment to providing effective leadership; (v) Capacity for prudent management of resources;
- Cognate administrative experience;
- Track records that command the respect and loyalty of members of staff and students of the University of Maiduguri;
- Ability to foster the integration of all without discrimination based on race, color, ethnicity, gender, religious and other acts of intolerance;
- Sound moral and unquestionable integrity and probity
- Sound state of health;
- Proficiency in Information Communication Technology (ICT);
- Ability to generate and attract funds.
Tenure
- The appointment shall be for a single term of five (5) years only.
Age of Applicants:
- Eligible candidates should not be more than sixty-five (65) years old at the time of assumption of office.
Conditions of Service
Shall be as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Federal Universities.

2.) Chief Security Officer (CSO)
Location: Borno
Qualifications
Candidate for the post must possess the following qualifications:
- Should be a retired Police Officer not below the rank of Superintendent of Police or its equivalent in the Nigerian Army, Navy or State Security Service.
- Degree in Law (LLB) or B.Sc. Sociology or other related disciplines with NYSC/exemption certificate will be an added advantage.
- The candidate should be a member of a relevant chartered professional body.
- The candidate should have a proven record of integrity, discipline and must be physically fit.
- Experience in security management in a tertiary institution is an added advantage.
Duration of Appointment
- The appointment shall be a two (2) year contract appointment and may be renewed subject to satisfactory performance.
- Other conditions of service are similar to those obtained in institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.
