Position: Toolmaker – Repair & Manufacture

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Toolmaker to join a well-established and innovative manufacturing environment based in West Drayton. This is a varied and hands-on role, ideal for a toolmaker with a strong background in precision engineering, particularly across mould and press tools.
The role involves repairing, maintaining, testing, and fault-finding on a wide range of tooling, with the chance to work on highly intricate and high-spec components.
💰 Salary & Shifts:
- Salary: £30,000 – £42,000 (up to £43,000 for exceptional candidates)
- Shifts:
- Days: 6:00/7:00am – 2:30/3:30pm
- Lates: 2:00pm – 10:30pm
- Sponsorship may be considered for outstanding candidates
🔧 Key Responsibilities:
- Fault finding, diagnosing, and repairing tooling to production-ready standard
- Stripping down, inspecting, and rebuilding mould and press tools
- Performing high-precision bench work and hand-fitting tasks
- Interpreting technical drawings and planning work effectively
- Working with hot runner systems, valve gate tooling, over-moulding, and tight tolerance tooling
- Using manual machines (mills, lathes, surface grinders, spark eroders, etc.)
- Operating and maintaining tooling department equipment
- Measuring with micrometers, verniers, slip gauges, and shadow graphs
- Assisting in continuous improvement of tooling processes and performance
✅ Essential Skills & Experience:
- Time-served or formally qualified in engineering/toolmaking
- Proven experience with mould and/or press tool repair and manufacture
- Strong background in fault finding, testing, and tool reconditioning
- Familiarity with multi-progression tooling, hydraulics, pneumatics, rack & pinion systems
- Hot runner, valve gate, or over-moulding process knowledge is a plus
- Able to work independently and collaborate with apprentices and colleagues
- Laser welding experience desirable but not essential
🎓 Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
- Abrasive Wheels certification (preferred)
