Please note: When calculating the basic salary for sponsorship, HCAS (High Cost Area Supplement) is not included for non-medical roles. This ensures fairness and consistency within our organisation, as some of our sites fall under inner HCAS, while others are classified as outer HCAS.

 

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Health Professions Council – License to Practice.
  • Evidence of CPD

Desirable

  • Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
  • Practice Educators Training.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with adults with acquired communication and swallowing impairments, relating to neurological conditions.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of working with interpreters and / or health advocates.
  • Experience of contributing to professional development / clinical education of junior staff, students and assistants.
  • Experience of contributing to audit / service improvement projects and working to timescale.
  • Experience of working in a culturally diverse environment.

Desirable

  • Experience of community working / lone working
  • Experience working with rehabilitation support workers.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of instrumental swallowing assessment.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of assessment tools and evidence-based interventions relevant to acquired communication / swallowing disorders relating to adult neurology.
  • Knowledge of national policies, procedures and current research relevant to stroke / adult neurology.
  • Knowledge of cultural and linguistic considerations when in a diverse cultural environment.

Desirable

  • Aware of the principles of managing complex swallowing and communication impairments and ability to apply these in practice to capacity assessments and risk feeding decisions.

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to undertake comprehensive standardised and non-standardised assessments of speech, language and swallowing.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in a clear and logical manner.
  • Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and reflection skills.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate.
  • Ability to supervise and develop others.
  • Ability to carry out risk assessments.
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Ability to deliver sensitive information and communicate with clients in an empathetic manner regarding their treatment, despite communication barriers.

Desirable

  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal.
