THE OPPORTUNITY: SKILLED CHEF (SOC CODE 5434)

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Chef with a strong foundation in Indian and Grill cuisine to join our dynamic kitchen. This role is ideal for a dedicated “New Entrant” to the UK Skilled Worker route who is eager to refine their expertise in a professional and supportive environment. You will play a vital role in our kitchen operations, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality dishes that delight our customers.

Key Responsibilities & Duties (Aligned with SOC Code 5434 – Chefs):

• Specialised Food Preparation & Cooking:
• Prepare, cook, and finish a diverse range of authentic Indian and Asian dishes, with particular emphasis on curries, grill items, and traditional Tandoor preparations (where applicable), ensuring adherence to established recipes and presentation standards.
• Master the techniques of preparing meats, poultry, and vegetables, including marination, for optimal flavour and texture.
• Operate and maintain specialist kitchen equipment, including grills and ovens, safely and efficiently.
• Quality Control & Consistency:
• Monitor the quality and freshness of all ingredients, reporting any deficiencies to the Head Chef.
• Ensure all dishes meet Monsoona’s exacting standards for taste, presentation, and portion control.
• Implement and uphold strict food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations within the kitchen (e.g., HACCP principles).
• Kitchen Operations & Team Collaboration:
• Assist the Head Chef in supervising kitchen activities during service, ensuring smooth workflow and timely order delivery.
• Support the overall efficiency of the kitchen, including mise en place, stock rotation, and maintaining a clean and organised workstation.
• Collaborate effectively with all kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure exceptional customer service.
• Cost Control & Stock Management:
• Contribute to effective cost control by minimising waste and assisting with accurate inventory management.
• Support the Head Chef in ordering and requisitioning necessary kitchen supplies and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

To be eligible for this sponsored role, candidates must meet the specific criteria for a “New Entrant” under the UK Home Office Skilled Worker Visa route.

Essential:

• “New Entrant” Eligibility: Applicants must typically meet one of the following criteria on the date of application for the visa:
• Be under 26 years old.
• Be switching from a Student Visa in the UK, having completed a UK bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD, and where their Student Visa has expired less than two years ago.
• Be in professional training for a UK-regulated profession relevant to this role.

• Experience: Experience: A minimum of 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time practical experience as a Chef, with proven expertise in Indian and grill cuisine, gained within a professional kitchen environment.
• Education: Secondary-level education (equivalent to UK GCSEs or higher).
• English Language Proficiency: Must be able to demonstrate English language ability to at least CEFR Level B1 in all four components (reading, writing, speaking, and listening), as required for the Skilled Worker visa. This can often be met by a UK degree or an approved English language test.
• Cooking Skills: Proven expertise in advanced cooking techniques relevant to Indian cuisine, including the preparation of various curries and effective use of grills/tandoors.
• Visa Compliance: Commitment to complying with all UK immigration rules and requirements throughout the visa process and during employment.
